The gospel is central to the Christian life. To be able to articulate it, both for ourselves and for those who might be interested in what we believe, is an essential skill. Here’s a simple way to explain the gospel that was developed from a study of the uses of “gospel” in the New Testament. For certain, it is not inclusive of every nuance associated with the inexhaustible good news of Jesus Christ, but it is a faithful attempt at a summary. Use it daily to consider how your life and present circumstances might be viewed through the lens of the gospel. Keep it in mind for those moments when someone asks you what you believe and, with merely napkin and pen at your disposal, you have the privilege of sharing the good news of Jesus Christ.
